How I Spent My Summer Vacation

The music surrounded me. I found myself enveloped in sound no matter where I turned. And by summer's end, I was able to smile from inside again.

This past year has been spent healing and I think we're okay now. Better able to make it on our own, onward towards the light, though its gleam is not as bright as it may have once been. But the path is clear and we stumble forward.

Furthur Festivals, H.O.R.D.E. Tours, Allman Brothers extravaganzas, Phish's bi-continental touring and many local gatherings made this an incredibly joyful summer. It gave us back our feeling of community and lifted our spirits.

As I write this, the days are growing shorter and the evenings bring a crisp coolness that signals the end of summer. In all honesty, I wasn't looking forward to this summer. It brought with it lots of painful realities-like no more Grateful Dead Summer Tour! Yet-with lots of infectious enthusiasm, we cautiously stepped into the sun. And surprise! We had fun! So many smiles, countless hugs and the spiraling epiphany of music surrounded us. You just had to reach out to touch it.

Now, I can look forward to tomorrow because it's going to be filled with the things I though we'd lost.
