ALLEN WOODY (October 2nd, 1956-August 25th, 2000)

Bassist Allen Woody passed away in his sleep on August 2nd, reportedly of cardiac arrest. He was in New York and was scheduled to return to his home in Tennessee early the following morning. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to: Savannah Woody Education Fund c/o Hard Head Management, P.O. Box 651 Village Station, NYC, NY 10014.

People pass through our lives every day and some cut right through the barriers and touch the soul.

To judge Allen Woody by his appearance would have been a mistake. His formidable countenance was a stark contrast to the warmth of his inner spirit. He was funny, friendly and downright lovable. He delighted in his family, always talking sweetly to his wife, Jenny, and baby daughter, Savannah.

Allen Woody's untimely passing has left a deafening void in the music community. Most recently, Woody had been playing with Gov't Mule with longtime associate, guitarist Warren Haynes, and drummer Matt Abts. He was also involved in Blue Floyd, a side project which covered the music of Pink Floyd. Most fans were introduced to Woody's playing during his stint with the Allman Brothers Band during thr 1990s.

In Memory of Allen Woody

We walk through life's contrasts of dark and light
We hide in the shadows, yet welcome the light
Our spirits are moved by our own inner tune
To dance with abandon at the sight of the moon

The sound may be quieted when nature steps in
But the music still rides on the breath of the wind
And nothing is silenced when memories live on
Never forgotten, never far gone
